St Croix Prep will look to continue their recent success in Coach Matthew McCollister's second season at the helm. The Lions lose most of their size from last year and will have to rely on strong perimeter play lead by Michael Gutierrez.
Gutierrez is a quick point guard who plays larger than his size. He is equally adept at penetrating, shooting from the perimeter or finishing in the lane. Jared Shea, a transfer from Stillwater who sat out last season, is an athletic senior wing who will be looked on to be a consistent scorer for the Lions
Senior Wade Kruger is a banger who’ll offer physical presence while 6’2 JR Sam Richardson returns this season after being out last year due to ankle injury. Richardson is an energizer who gets out there and makes thing happen.
Junior Quinn Fisher is a PG with strong defensive skills who’ll be asked to improve a little more offensively this season. Soph Austin Have supplied 15ppg at the JV level last year and will be looked upon for hopeful similar production this season. Jayton Medcalf, is a promising freshman who could get a lot of varsity time.
Teams that Lions will face off against that are quality squads and section foes as well include St Paul Academy, Minnehaha Academy & St Croix Lutheran. All of these squads will be ones the SCP wants to compete with.
There will be a large dose of Michael Guiterrez putting up nice numbers and making his teammates better as the season begins, but hopefully as it goes on everyone gets comfortable finds a role and will supply the ability for this squad to be someone that you don’t want to face at tourney time.
