Ben Hemberger begins year 9 as the head coach in Fosston. This year looks to be quite promising for he and his assistants Nathan Johnson, Les Viken, & John Keller. Eight solid kids return 2014-15 season.
Senior guards Daren Viken 21ppg/8rpg/4apg & Aaron Arneson 15.5ppg/4.5rpg/2.0apg form a formidable backcourt that will be ultra dependable for the Greyhounds. A few other senior classmates will get playing time as well and return some stats from last season. Cole Nelson & Kyle McClung are both 5’10 guards.
The junior class offers the height for the Greyhounds. 6’5 Cody Bauman played some varsity minutes and ended his season averaging 5pts/5rebs. Lochlan Broadley a 6’6 forward & 6’2 Ben Miller are going to be others who’ll roam the paint this year. 5’8 soph Jesse Sather is a youngster who’ll contribute as well.
Games marked on the calendar this season for the Greyhounds include a game vs Esko and then fellow P2P squads like Ada-Borup, Park Christian, & Win-E-Mac. North half favorites in the P2P are Mahnomen, Win-E-Mac & the Greyhounds. South looks open to many as well with Ada-Borup, Park Christian, Waubun & NCE-UH as possibilities.
Section 8A is one that has several teams that could also represent northern Minnesota at State. Favorites here mentioned were: Fosston, Red Lake, Northern Freeze, Stephen-Argyle & Cass Lake. It certainly will be a fun one to follow as the season goes on.
Coach Hemberger believes their guard play and height advantage could benefit his boys to pose some problems for opponents this season. Getting the inexperienced players confident and able to perform as soon as they can will build a nice bench and it that happens the Greyhounds may well reach their goals set.
