Curt Grachek begins his second season as head coach at Mora following 12 there as an assistant. The Mustang coach will have a welcome challenge this season getting his kids to build off last years 14-13 mark.
The loss of graduate Sam Johnson, now playing at Jamestown University, will be huge. Filling his shoes will not be easy by any one player. Seniors Keyon Weaver and Jake Friday bring the senior leadership this season & will be asked to contribute. A very young group of kids like Brandon Mann & Bryce Norby (sophs) were fortunate enough to get limited varsity experience last season. Practicing with and against the likes of Johnson will definitely help these two kids become the building blocks in the program. Freshman Cal Wright is another up and coming player coach Grachek made mention of.
Brining the youth to play varsity hoops in the Granite Ridge Conference as soon as possible will be the chief Mustang goal. Albany is looking to be the Granite Ridge early favorite. A game with section rival Braham is one the Mustangs mark each year. The Bombers and potentially Annandale are teams that look to have section title hopes in the preseason.
Coach Grachek would love to be good enough to finish once again with a winning season similar to last. Having the large youth presence this year will present a major challenge to build. If confidence is built early and maintains, this squad could well achieve their season goals.
