Joan Conway will begin her third season at the helm for the Bluejays. Waseca finished the season at .500 last year going 13-13. Being part of the new Big South Conference is exciting for the squad that has several returnees.
Five seniors and a couple sophomores will be looked upon to supply a lot of the early statistics as the Bluejays get more depth. Mikayla Rolling and Kirstin Simmons are likely the main cogs in the attack. Rolling has potential to reach 1000pt plateau this year if things go well. Other seniors Katy Tlusty, Sally O’Brien & Sam Hiller are expected to fill roles and provide good leadership as seniors too. Emily & Breanna Karsten are just sophomores, but bring capable skills to make a difference this season.
The old South Central conference is now the Big South East side & early indications put St. Peter as the team to beat. Waseca will expect a top half performance minimum, but would love to be playing in that conference championship game vs the Big South West winner in February. Being in the top half of section is also an important goal for the Jays. Kasson-Mantorville has a very nice team & will be a tough out come tourney time.
Waseca has had some recent success in the community in basketball as the boys are also expected to be strong. Sometimes that enthusiasm runs off all the way down to the younger squads. The Bluejay nation should be looking to see a pretty nice season from these ladies.
