The Storm headed by Coach Nathan Pelowski, now in his 6th year, returns some excellent players from last seasons 18-8 squad. Five returning players should provide the leadership this season so that Chan will be looked as contenders for conference and section titles.
Joey Witthus is a familiar name in the MN basketball circles as he’s been a kid who’s been with the varsity squad for 3 seasons. He’ll bring back a 22.9 points/game average along with 7.3 boards as well. He could finish his Storm career as the all-time leading scorer if the season goes well.
Ben Khwice adds 7.9 points & 3 asts/game. Ben can shoot the three ball with no issue. He hit 8-10 in a game vs Red Wing in January last year. Maxxon Hutton 5.5ppg, Chad Mapes 6.4 ppg & Andrew Mattern 2.3 ppg round out the 5 that Coach Pelowski will depend upon. Other kids will have an opportunity to contribute, which is something that will help out.
Big games on the Chanhassen schedule include the two against arch rival and conference foe Chaska. A game vs Eden Prairie & Edina are on the early radar before the season begins. The Metro West Conference will provide adequate competition for the Storm all season.
Chaska & Bloomington Jefferson look to be the main early conference title threats along with the Storm. Section 2AAAA boasts these same teams as leaders along with other teams such as Prior Lake & Shakopee.
It will be fun seeing which newcomers help the Storm along to their goals this season and if a State tourney ticket is punched or not.
