Farmington comes into the 2014-15 campaign hoping to continue on task from last season where they had finished with a 19-8 record. The win total was second most in school history. Head Coach Shane Wyandt, who will be in this 11th season along with assistant Tharen Johnson will work with the squad so that they’ll be a top team in Section 1AAAA.
The Tigers have 3 returning players who had consistent playing time last season. Senior Zach Speikers returns after a season ending ACL injury in the final regular season game. Another senior Wyatt Ferm was a leader for the Tigers this summer as Speikers rehabilitated. He was especially good at the Pacesetter MIT event this summer where Tigers took 2nd place. Junior Alex Hart is another returnee that big things will be needed from.
8 others from the program will be looked upon to step up this season. Zach Anderson, Jackson Hailstorm, Andrew Larson, & Kevin Robertson are other seniors who’ll don the orange & black. Some very hard working juniors Alex Zitzmann, Lucas Berg, Gavin Bassett & Jacob Laube will battle for playing time and push their other teammates in practice.
This will be the first year for Farmington in the South Suburban Conference, so new rivals will be made quickly there with the Lakeville schools. The Tigers gave the defending state champs Lakeville North quite a game last year & it turned into one for the ages where LN won 104-99 in OT. That was one the locals will talk about for years to come. Another game of note will be the second game of the season vs Rochester John Marshall at home November 22.
Farmington basketball is an ever improving program, the culture is being developed right down to the youth levels now. A lot of kids graduated that will be difficult to replace, but the kids coming in will already know what is expected from them.
