Randy Misegades begins his 10th season as head coach at Henning High School. He will be assisted by Mark Oscarson & Ryan Emter in what just so happens to be the 100th anniversary of Henning basketball.
Henning will not return a lot of experience back this season as 6 seniors, including all 5 starters are gone from last year’s 17-9 season. Seniors Carl Colburn & Rick Erlandson, along with juniors Cort Ebeling and Kolby Thalmann are the only experienced varsity members back this season.
HHS has won the Park Region Conference the past 3 seasons. Coach Misegades and his kids put a lot of emphasis on conference games & hope to have a shot at a fourth straight despite lacking depth. Expectations remain high for the possibility, but teams like Bertha-Hewitt and Verndale will be the main teams looking to take over the top. Section 5A is balanced, but at the top a strong Battle Lake team will be the main group all others will shoot for.
A special 100th anniversary celebration will be had at Henning High School that will include a game for the varsity team vs Climax-Fisher. During that event, the 50th anniversary of the magical state tournaments Henning made in 64-65 & 65-66 will be commemorated. Those teams will be honored and all alumni and fans are invited to come back home and celebrate. Sounds like a cool event and one where the new crop of kids wearing the Hornet orange and black will get to show their skills to likely their largest crowd all season.
