The Bluejays of Waseca brought plenty of excitement to the community and school with an exciting team last year. Coach Todd Dufault will start his 4th year as the head coach. He’ll be assisted by Monte Dufault & Jon Kaiser.
Four of the top 8 kids are back this year and despite losing some quality seniors, this group believes it can duplicate last season, with hopes to get to conference and section championships. The squad this year will be long and athletic, where last year it was a little more of a physical team.
Senior Shane Streich returns as a 4-year starter, while junior Nick Dufault will begin his 3rd year as a starter. Both of these guys can put the ball in the hoop and are quickly approaching the 1000 pt plateau. Streich just completed the Cross Country season winning the Class A individual title. He is the table setter with his great defensive play, which in turn gets him a lot of easy buckets some games. Dufault has great natural instincts & can play point or off guard. He’s a complete player who’ll go to the rim or burn you from outside. Had had 75 three-pointers last season.
Seniors Isaac Highum gives the Bluejays a long, athletic guard who can score. He worked hard to get stronger for the season ahead. Tyler Kolander spent a lot of time in post last year, but is a much better face the basket player and will get the chance this season as a 3 or 4. Dylan Romain & 6’5 Logan Goodlander are seniors who’ll do whatever they can to make themselves and team better.
Younger guys like 6’7 Owen Lewer, a good JR who can rebound & protect the rim. Elijah Carter, 6’5, is another big man who can finish. 6’6 Sophomore Jake Guse is another big youngster that is part of the Bluejay future. This group of height is a nice compliment to the returning backcourt talent.
Coach Dufault states “You can’t teach experience, our goal is to get better every day & compete every night.” He seems to have all of those pieces in place to put another fine season together.
