Beth Clark starts her 27th season leading the Hermantown Hawks GBB program. Coach Clark was a recent inductee into the MGBCA Hall of Fame last April. The Hawks leader sports a very impressive 404-269 record across those seasons.
The Hawks are eager to get started. All-Conference Jr Shania Bolen and Sophomore Jordyn Thomas are key players who’ll return to their varsity roles. There is a lot of quickness on this squad and the hope is to use it to their advantage any opportunity they get.
A couple of SR’s return as well, that are very important to team success this year. Mariah Ruhanen is an excellent defender and leader. She’s the team captain this season. Kianna Hren is the floor general and sees the floor very well; a smart player.
There are rivalry games each and every season with the likes of Duluth East, Grand Rapids, Esko, & Cloquet. The Hawks hope to fight for the Lake Superior Conference title with Superior & Cloquet.
The Hawks, who finished last year at 16-11, lost out to Chisago Lakes in Section 7AAA semi-finals. It is hopeful to contend for the actual title this season with squads such as Chisago, Grand Rapids, & Cloquet.
There are a lot of great & talented hoopsters in the northern half of the state that the casual fan isn’t truly aware of. The style of play and talent is getting too big to ignore and we’ll all be noticing soon.
