John Oxton returns to Lakeville North for his 24th season of coaching. His squad last year was the Class AAAA champs. He & assistants Mike Nolan, Mark Haddorff & Troy Sergent will work with this team with the same goal in mind for this year.
North returns a lot of size and depth this season. One difficult replacement will be finding someone to step in the role JP Macura filled. 3 seniors and 4 juniors will return and each try to add something to their game to fill the hole as best as possible.
Tyler Flack, Isaac Brooks, & Carl Engwall are the seniors who’ll be leaders and experienced team members. Juniors stepping up will be Drew Steward, Calven Pesola, Carter Brooks, & David Lindstrand. South Suburban Conference play looks tougher every season as of late and this one will be no different. These guys will have to be consistently ready each and every time out.
Main competition for the SSC title will come from Apple Valley. North is scheduled to compete in the Breakdown Tip-Off vs Class A Minneapolis North, & the game vs Eden Prairie is always a huge rivalry game as well.
North has ran off 3 straight Section 1AAAA titles and the goal for this year is to repeat again. A strong Rochester John Marshall squad might have something to say about that and is looked upon as being the chief section competitor this season.
Completely replacing the presence of JP Macura is unlikely as he certainly was a unique talent, but coach Oxton has been around the block with more teams than just last years. I expect the Panthers will be near the top come tourney time.
