Nate Larson is in his 7th season as head coach at Foley. Coach Larson played ball under the legendary Coach Bob Brink at Rocori in high school. I am sure the Falcon squad gets a lot of “Brinkism” quotes as each season goes on. Larson is assisted by Chris Gross who also is in his 7th year.
Foley had just a few seniors on their roster last year, so the youth that got experience on the court then will be back leading the charges this season. The Falcons finished 2013-14 year at 6-20.
Past seasons have had Foley looking to use their bulk and girth to a slower style of basketball including a lot of zone defense. It will be a drastic change this year as the height is gone and the team is very guard laden. It will create the necessity to move to a much faster style of play. Depth is good this season with up to 12 expected to fit and play roles to move the team along to greener pastures.
Foley plays in the tough Granite Ridge conference, so every game is a battle there. St Cloud Cathedral, Little Falls, & Albany bring strong squads to contend for the league title this year. Foley is an AA school, most of the members in the conference are AAA.
Section 5AA, where the Falcons reside, had 3 teams ranked in the Top 10 last season. Annandale, St Cloud Cathedral & Braham were those squads. It is expected these three will be there again in search of the Section title as they all bring a lot back. Foley would like to be there to spell an upset or two in the post season.
Having 7 letter winners back, a new aggressive style of play, & fresh new attitude because of it should bring some successes the Falcon’s way this season. The crew is ready to get after it this season.
