Coach Chad Gagnon and his HLWW boys went all the way to the Section 5AA finals last season. That experience makes the returning kids hungry to try and get back to that level again this season. Many from that 23-6 team are gone, so the new younger Lakers coming on to varsity will be the guys hoping to keep the good vibes going in the program.
Returning players this season include Chad Gagnon(10ppg), a very good shooter from beyond the arc and at the line. Jake Gruenhagen averaged 6pp/4rpg and will be looking to improve on those stats. Austin Solberg(4ppg) is another player back who the Lakers will need more production from.
The Central MN Conference sports some good competition all year long. This year’s early favorites are Eden Valley-Watkins and Maple Lake. Section 5AA is strong again as well with Braham & Breck being named up front as potential teams the Lakers will need to topple. A rivalry game to look forward to this season, will be against a very good Rockeford squad.
Coach Gagnon, who is assisted by Jeff Goudy, John Zander, & Steve Gagnon, expects his squad to be competitive in both conference and section play. The youth coming in has a lot of talent and will need to blend in quickly with the upper classmen to get their ship headed towards the level they played at this past season.
