A solid group of kids are back for the Jackson County Central Huskies leaving 9th year head coach Trent Sukalski very enthusiastic about the year ahead. Four solid contributors are returning along with a slew of eager talented underclassmen are reasons for excitement this season.
Senior Zach Swarting returns a 13.6 ppg average. His experience playing a lot of varsity the past few seasons make him a very good leader for the group. Senior Joe Brinkman will also be looked upon to lead the younger Huskies with his play during games and practice.
6’8 JR Bodey Behrends is going to be looked upon to fill the shoes of the departed Jon Harmening, now at Dakota Wesleyan. Harmening left the school as all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Behrends will be a force in the middle with great shot blocking & rebounding skills. He’ll be looked upon to score more this season too in which he is quite capable of. Classmate Colton Timmer brings back 6.5ppg average from a nice sophomore season at varsity level. Contributions are also expected from Ryan Salzwedal, a junior guard.
The Big South Conference, at least the West half will have quite a bit of size this season, which hasn’t always been the case in the past. Marshall & Redwood Valley pose challenges on the West half for the Huskies in a championship quest. Waseca is strong on the East half.
Section 3AA is always one of the most entertaining to follow. The Huskies are right in the thick of being a favorite to win this along with the likes of Redwood Valley, Fairmont, TMB, Montevideo, & Pipestone. The Huskies will be looking to play their best ball at that point of the season.
Having a bunch of kids who love to play basketball is never a bad thing to having going for you. This seems to really encourage Coach Sukalski & staff that they’ll be awful good this season.
