WBB preview for Mankato via Free Press writer Chad Courier t.co/E7k8fyUDIHThe Minnesota State women were 23-6 but came up one victory short of qualifying for the national tournament again, losing in the semifinals of the conference tournament. It was an offseason reminder that every game is important and can make the difference between a good season and memorable one. “It just shows you that you have to be ready to play every game,” senior point guard Aubrey Davis said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s November or March, every game is important.” Davis and senior forward Jamie Bresnahan are the only returning starters, and the lineup has a huge void where Ali Wilkinson was a double-double machine for most of her four seasons. “We don’t expect any one player to carry the load,” coach Emilee Thiesse said. “We have a great returning corps, and that experience is huge. We don’t feel like we’re rebuilding.” Senior guard Ashley Olson and senior post Lexie Ulfers are back, as are sophomores Britney Scherber, Tyra Johnson and Sammie Delzotto. Junior centers Anna Leloux and McKenzie Hoelmenn both missed most of last season with injury. “I feel really great about our leadership,” Thiesse said. “That should keep us going in the right direction.” Freshmen Claire Ziegler, Madison Agey, Claire Jordan and Maddison Lee will get a chance to find playing time. “Everybody is ready to go,” Davis said. “There’s a really positive energy on our team.”
