Christopher Aggen begins his rookie season as head coach of the JCC Huskies GBB program. Aggen is a Worthington native and played in the Southwest conference, so the rivalries that each team faces are not new to him. Aggen was also a grad assistant with the U of Sioux Falls WBB program last season, so he’ll be more than knowledgeable to lead the Huskies to positive results.
7 Seniors are set to return this year. Their play will be key to the team’s success. 1000 point scorer Kaylee Burmeister, Rachel Johnson, Julia Schumann, Blaney Markmann, Sarah Brandt, Jade Holthe, & Sydney Eddy are the ladies expected to lead the way.
Last year’s squad finished 8-15, but Coach Aggen expects an improvement off of that. His squad spent time together this summer to learn the new system. The is a nice well-roundedness to this group with strengths at all positions. The kids & coach are definitely hungry to work towards being competitive each night out and potentially be a conference contender.
The new Big South Conference is separated out still with the original members of the SWC & SCC so schedules and teams playing will be no different than normal. Windom to the north is a natural and long time rival to the north. Marshall is also a rival due mainly to volleyball which a lot of these girls also play & quite well.
Section play is competitive and open, JCC will be able to test their mettle against section teams all season long to gauge where they need to be when tourney time starts. Fairmont and Redwood Valley were top squads last season and will be good again this year.
