Truman, Martin Luther, & GHEC join forces on the boys basketball for the first time this season. Head Coach Brian Borkenhagen will lead the merger. Borkenhagen had one season at T/ML & then 4 additional at Martin Luther, so he knows the kids he’ll be working with.
Naturally as 3 schools are combining you will expect some big numbers on the squad and the Jags have just that. They’ll be able to run 11-12 deep this season and will be looking to play some uptempo basketball to take advantage of that depth.
The Valley conference where the Jags play will likely see Martin County West & St Clair as the preseason favorites. T/ML/GHEC spends a lot of its non-conference play battling with Class AA squads which is helpful building confidence and skills for playoff time. Section 2A early favorites look to be Sleepy Eye St Mary’s & United South Central, but this has been pretty open the past few seasons to pull and upset or two.
Some young men who are vying for starting and role playing spots are: Alex Weihe, Josh Wolter, Jackson Maloney, Tristan Maday, Colton Greiner, Adam Neumann, Zayne Engel, Garrett Balcom, Tyler Mathiason, Tyler Wiederhoeft, & Zach Brommond. It will be an exciting year for this new merger, the talent seems to be there for a successful season.
