Anoka girl’s hoop begins its 2nd season under head Coach Scott Antl. Coach Antl, who was at Centennial for many seasons, led the Tornadoes to a 21-9 record last year. Antl is assisted by Jason Hofstedt.
Anoka lost 9 seniors but will look to remain on track with a strong group of girls this year. The team is looking to be much quicker than last season, but will be a little bit on the youthful side. It’s hopeful to get a Top 3 finish in the always tough Northwest Suburban conference.
A couple of juniors will be looked up to provide quality scoring & rebounding along with a pair of sophomores. Naomi Torgerson played a good amount of varsity minutes last season as a sophomore, she’ll be joined by classmate Miranda Phipps on the court. 6’2 soph Brittany Bongartz will provide a good presence inside & Abby Slater is a nice player expected to contribute.
Section 7AAAA is always a good one & this season will be no different. Teams such as Andover & Cambridge-Isanti will provide road blocks for the Tornados hope to get to the state tournament.
This squad is one that people will want to keep an eye on and remember though for the next couple seasons to come.
