Josh Wieme starts his 7th year at Goodhue High School and will jump into his season looking for a few valuable replacements to three 3-year starters. Losing Mikayla Miller, who was one of the best in Class A, and two smart veterans like Kali Ryan & Merideth Watson were leaves big shoes to fill.
Returners expected to lead will be Shelby Hinsch, who made all-conference and state tourney team, & Michelle Hadler, who returns a 40% clip from three point land. Youth and inexperience are present weaknesses after these two players that will have to continue to be developed through practice and games.
Goals for the season are to contend for conference and section titles. Some good strengths of the squad will be balance, quickness & some size. Conference action will be competitive with the likes of Kasson-Mantorville, Hayfield & Kenyon-Wanamingo all who play a class or two above Goodhue.
Blooming Prairie, Lyle Pacelli, & Southland are teams mentioned as early leaders in Section 1A with the GHS team looking to be in the group as well come March. Miller’s shoes will need to be filled as best they can be. Improvement at the guard spot as the season goes, is going to dictate whether this squad can join the other names when talking a trip to State.
