This season’s Ely Timberwolves girl’s squad only learned in late June who would be their coach this season. Darren Visser was hired and will begin his inaugural year along with 4 key seniors returnees. Ely will look to improve upon their 12-14 season they had last season.
The four seniors returning were all key contributors last season as well. Natalie McDonald offers a solid rebounding player with scoring skills. Marlee Muhvich scores often and readily when open, she is a sold 5’7 guard. Shawna Butler is another good ball player who was on the court often last year. The last senior is Alison Zaverl who’ll be a great third option to score in the always tough Section 7A play.
Top matchups for the T’Wolves this year in regular season & section playoffs will be against Northeast Range, North Woods, & Mt. Iron-Buhl. MIB and North Woods look to be the section powers in the pre-season.
Ely will lack depth so the girls coming back will be asked to play some major minutes and provide leadership to their younger teammates. The experience those ladies do have will help them out. Coach Visser initially sees his girls as middle of the pack in Section play standings, but a team that others should not sell short.
