Coach Mike McDonald returns for his 28th year at C-I & 32nd overall. The son of the all-time winningest coach in MN basketball history Bob McDonald has a very impressive 406-258 of his own. His squad was 16-10 overall last season 7-6 in Mississippi 8.
The Bluejackets return their top two scorers from last season. Kyle McDonald, the coaches son, now a senior has been a core part of the lineup the past 3 seasons. He & Nate Cox, also a noted soon to be 4 year contributor on the varsity, are the two returning scorers back this season. They both averaged a little over 15 pts each last season.
Guys like Devin Malik, Collin Terwilliger, Evan Dunbar, Jake Hardking, Joe Conrad, & Luke Johnson will be asked to be solid contributors all season to help the team reach their season goals. Malik is a known defensive disruptor who also contributed 8ppg last season.
All games on the schedule are important during the season, but some to note are the two versus Section foe St Francis. These guys also are part of the MLK Classic in Duluth where they'll play Edina. The squad also has a wonderful opportunity to play a game in the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls in January as well. They'll also participate in the Lakeville North holiday tourney which is usually stocked with nice teams.
Coach McDonald sees STMA as the favorite in the Mississippi 8 conference on the West half, while his squad and St Francis battling it out in the East. The games in the conference are always competitive and preparation is needed for each.
Look for the Bluejackets to be one of the teams mentioned as a favorite in Section 7AAA this year. Kyle McDonald is nearing his 100th point & will definitely be looking to have a great senior season. He's one of the better guards in the state.
